elumatec Benelux supports housing project for the needy in Sri Lanka

Together with elumatec Benelux and 16 further project partners, the HEBO company and the H.A.S. Foundation built 16 dwellings in north western Sri Lanka. elumatec staff paid a local visit to the project for its opening event.

It was a special day for all those involved in the project: After about two years of hard work, needy residents of Adhikarigama, a village in one of the poorest regions of Sri Lanka, moved into their new homes. The settlement in the north western part of the country was constructed prior to this in several phases. The result: 16 weatherproof residential buildings with electricity and running water.

With the help of financial assistance from elumatec Benelux and 16 additional partners, the HEBO company and the Dutch H.A.S. Foundation kicked off the “HEBO Housing Project” about two and a half years ago. It was now time for sponsors, project initiators and the village residents to celebrate the completion of the housing project. Each house was officially inaugurated by one of the sponsors: “We are overwhelmed by the gratefulness of the people”, said Marcel Boender, the project contact at elumatec Benelux.

An eye-catching thank you: The HEBO company and the H.A.S. Foundation expressed thanks to all those involved in the project.

“HEBO and the HAS Foundation did a fantastic job here. I am proud that we are a part of this outstanding project”.

Together with friends and supporters of the project, Norbert Kuipers, owner of the HEBO company, inaugurated the 16 new dwellings.

HEBO has been working in Sri Lanka since 2011. The “Elder Home” project previously completed in Kandy serves as a permanent care facility for older people who would otherwise be on their own. In 2014, the house won a prize as the best seniors residence in Sri Lanka.
